TESTIMONIALS

I first collaborated with Rick on the mastering sessions for his Moon car albums. Besides being uber-creative and understanding the business, Rick never delivers “expected” musical content. Whether he wants to evoke moodiness, heartfelt emotion or put a smile on your face, he’s a true original. An outside-of-the-box problem solver and a really great person.
— Mike Marinelli, President & Co-founder @ Sonic union
I had the pleasure of working with Rick on a short film, “Pipe Dreams,” which went on to win the 2011 Soho Int’l Film Festival among other accolades. Rick’s highly original score brought the perfect blend of mood and emotion to the film, and contributed greatly to its success.

Rick (sometimes literally) wears a lot of hats. He’s a talented musician, gifted composer, and a thoughtful collaborator. He attacks every project with a fresh perspective and an endless supply of hyper-focused creativity elevating the visuals to unexpected new heights. Most recently, I asked Rick to create an original score for a series of animated shorts promoting the board game “Schmovie,” and usual he crushed it. I hire him for every project I can, and you should, too.

Imagine a creative unicorn that also can play keys—that’s Rick Abbott. A composer with roots as an advertising creative, Rick fully understands the impact the right track can bring to an ad. When he worked with me at GSD&M, he not only created advertising ideas, he also composed the music that made them sing. Collaborative, inspired, and professional, I highly recommend Rick and look forward to working with him in the future.
— Nicole DuMouchel Davis, Group Creative Director AT GSDM
When I hear his work, I dreamt that I was living in the first settlement on Mars, exploring vast empty landscapes with melancholic delight and creating a new world of profoundly solemn wisdom. I’ve found new melodic narrative here for me and I don’t ever want to return to Earth.
— MATT ORSER, GCD @ DOLLAR SHAVE CLUB
Rick’s musical talent and bottomless imagination were absolutely critical to bringing my podcast to life. His score and sound design runs the gamut from minimalist to sweepingly epic. He has the dexterity of mind to quickly come up with multiple options and moods. And finally, his experience as a wordsmith helped me shape my scripts so that they synched to the score.
— Ryan Nerz, author / TV personality / podcast host
Whether he’s bridging an almost industrial aesthetic with the orchestral, or combining arpeggiated techy percussion with ancient tribal chants, Rick’s approach takes the listener straight to the scene...and that scene is intense with emotion.
— NICK GARZA, FOUNDER OF "NICK GARZA'S GET ALONG"
I’ve a fan of Rick since the beginning of his musical journey some 20 years ago when, in a run down apartment in Dallas, we started with a shitty MIDI editor, an insanely bad mixing program, then, eventually, Fruity Loops - which is where Rick went off and left me as I walked away from the craft for quite some time. Watching his evolution as a composer has been spectacular. This man is creatively broad. Not constrained by genre or style, Rick has insane versatility which makes him an amazing score writer.
